Origins of Ashok Chakra in Indian flag
The ‘Dharma Chakra’ of Ashoka, used in Indian flag, is not Buddhist. Rather, it is Vedic.
Historically, this was originally the pillar and wheel of the ancient Vājapeya ritual. The pillar is the cosmic representation of Agni/Rudra, and the Chakra is Sūrya (the sun). Hindus have worshiped this exact stambha and Chakra for thousands of years before the Buddha was even born.
