Bahadur Shah Zafar Supported British in 1857

Bahadur Shah Zafar supported British in 1857

When Indian soldiers were fighting “First War Of Independence”. Bahadur Shah Zafar wrote a letter to the British. He said “We (Muslims & British) are people of the book. We are brothers. Our enemy is Hindu isolated”. He is glorified as a “freedom fighter” in school textbooks in India. The travesty was that Indian Sepoys were actually fighting to overthrow British and install Bahadur Shah Zafar II himself on the throne. But Bahadur Shah knew which direction the wind was flowing. By dissociating himself from the Sepoys before the British, he tried to play both ways.
