Was Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay pro-British?
The propapganda that Bankim Chandra was pro-British was started by Marxist historians. Marxist falsely claimed that Bankim Chandra favoured British in his book Anandamath.
In reality, Bankim Chandra only said that British are the lesser evil than muslim invaders and that view was very popular in those times. Anandamath was published in 1882.
In his book Anandamath, Bankim Chandra advocated for self rule and self-reliant Bharat, talked about glorious Hindu past. He never advocated for colonial rule. He also suggested that Hindus cannot defeat British at this point of time while maintaining that muslims are bigger evil. Bankim Chandra was being a realist not pro-British.
Owaisi and Marxist historians also hide the fact that British banned Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Anandamath because it was seen as a seditious text that fueled Indian nationalism and anti-British sentiment.
The fact that British banned Anandmath, I can say that anyone who opposes Anandamath (or Vande Mataram) is pro-British.
