Claim:Sher Shah Suri introduced and standardised the Rupee. The Mughals continued to categorise currency along Suri’s tri-metallic formula.Mohurs were struck in gold, Rupees in silver and the humble daam, precursor to the paisa, was cast in copper.

Fact:1800 years before Sher Shah Suri was even born, Arthashastra mentions silver coin called “Rupya”. 1100 years before Sher Shah, Kumaragupta issued Golden Mudra(Mohur), Silver Rupya(Rupaya) and copper Damma(Dam)
