Tata and Ulfa
In 1997, Police arrested An ULFA terrorist, Pranati Deka, and her two aid terrorists. Most shockingly, Tata Group helped her financially with her delivery at Jaslok Hospital.
Tata paid medical bills of ULFA terrorist Pranati Deka. They also arranged hotel stays for them. Also, the top Tata official, Dr Brojen Gogoi, even accompanied Deka to Bombay for her initial treatment. Given her top gynecologist and ‘A’ category cabin!
When Assam Police interrogated Saeed Mohammed Kidwai, Excucative director of Tata Tea, he disclosed how Tata also paid another terrorist outfit, NDFB, and how they paid airfare of terrorists of NDFB for their meeting with Tata officials in Taj Hotel Delhi.
Assam government made the more severe charges that Tata Top official Brojen Gogoi financed a trip of top terrorists of ULFA to Geneva, and he flew to Geneva to meet them.
Not only in Geneva, Tata’s top officials had arranged multiple meetings with ULFA terrorists in Thailand and Bangladesh.
After this expose on Tata and ULFA, another scandal emerged.
Call recordings of Ratan Tata, Nusli Wadia, Mahindra & Mahindra chairman Keshub Mahindra, Rajya Sabha member of Parliament Jayant Malhotra, and Field Marshal Maneckshaw published by the Indian Express. In these transcripts, they pressured and lobbied the central government and top officials to help and favor them in the case of their connection with ULFA.
Surprisingly, after this phone-tapping leak, the central government initiated an inquiry into who tapped these people’s calls instead of taking action against influential people discussing influencing their case with ULFA.
